As we get ready to ring in the new year, I thought it only fitting to deliver what everyone truly yearns for during the holiday seasons: Numbers, graphs, and sweet delicious data. So I broke down the 52 games I played and covered this year into a few choice statistics to see how well I stuck to my stated goals of playing through my backlog and broadening my horizons.
Games Played by Release Year:

This is the percentage breakdown of the year of release for games 1-52. There are a few notes, particularly in regards to rereleases and remasters. Generally, unless there were significant changes, I stuck with the initial year of release. Soul Reaver go a new coat of paint, but is otherwise pretty faithful to the original. The Suikoden games added a dash feature, but that's about it. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion remaster changed a LOT of things, so I considered it new. With that in mind, I only counted 9 games under 2025, which is still the most of any other year by a fair margin. 2019 came in second with 5 games, which isn't too surprising considering what happened the very next year.
Games Played by Genre:

Coming as no surprise, RPGs, spread between two classifications, dominated the list with a combined 19 games, but there are a few other things of note. Shooters, both first and third person, made a sizable showing with 6 and 5 games respectively. Horror made a decent show, considering my admitted cowardice, with 3 games. Fighting, Soulslike, and Roguelike all crept in with a game apiece, which is pretty outside my normal wheelhouse.
Other Random Statistics:
Number of games where I played as a cat: 3. Not crazy, but it beat out a few years and genres.
Achievement points gained: 43,515. Considering I played exclusively on Xbox for the first 52 games, my gamer score (the only true metric of worth) went up considerably.
Most played game: The Witcher III: Wild Hunt with well over 100 hours. In second is Dragon Age: Inquisition, the only other title to hit triple digits.
Most played series: Far Cry. I went from having played zero games in the series to having 4 under my belt.
Number of games where my character murdered a spouse or lover: 4, a surprisingly high body count.
Number of articles written: Not counting this one, a solid 80.
