Released in April, Adorable Adventures is a laid-back, cozy game in which we play as a young boar named Boris. Separated from his family due to a wildfire in the park in which they live, young Boris must use the best tool he has, his prodigious porcine snout, to find his siblings in order to reunite with their mother. Doing so will involve a delightful romp around the park in which they live, which is modeled closely after the gorgeous Cévennes National Park in southern France.

Adorable Adventures is a game that completely flew under my radar upon announcement and release, and I only happened to stumble across it by pure chance while browsing for games. The name, while certainly apt, does little to help it stand out among page after page of AI generated garbage that litters every virtual storefront. After randomly deciding to watch the trailer, I was in awe of the serene beauty the game seemed to promise, and thus decided to take the dive. I went in expecting little more than some cute romping about as a small boar. What I discovered was certainly that, but so much more.

We begin the game as Boris has just been separated from his sounder. Alone but undaunted, we're introduced to the basic controls which consists of running, jumping, and sniffing things around us to track their scent. We soon find our mother, who has been trapped behind a large, heavy door that neither she nor Boris can budge. Thus, Boris sets out to find his brothers and sisters in the hopes that their combined efforts can free their mother.

It's a relatively simple yet effective premise, and in short order we discover a variety of roadblocks that, alone, we are unable to get past. These serve to gradually open up the park as we find and recruit our siblings. Finding our siblings is only half the problem, as the majority of them have found themselves in some predicament or another, meaning we'll need to solve their problem or puzzle before they're ready to join us. To do so, we have to explore the park and familiarize ourselves with the flora and fauna, which we do primarily with our sense of smell.

In addition, there are a smattering of secrets and collectibles to find, almost all of which are entirely optional. The reward for doing so is gaining information about the world around us and, more importantly, a variety of incredibly cute hats that Boris can wear. The primary goal of the game is to explore the park and learn about nature, but there are a few more traditional objectives as well, including some time trials that will test how well you can maneuver our small shoat.

What little story there is primarily focuses on our young boar exploring the world around him and reuniting with his siblings to free their mother. There is a larger message about preserving nature and the dangers of poor fire etiquette, which is particularly driven home as we explore the charred and ashen area that is the primary cause of our current dilemma. The game never gets overly preachy, though seeing the devastation caused by a poorly controlled flame could be seen as a bit hamfisted by some.

Though a relatively short experience, I found myself fully engaged with the undeniable charm on display. Never fully going into being an outright boar simulation game, Adorable Adventures manages to capture the serene beauty of nature and the playful antics of a young, wild boar on a quest to find his family. There are no enemies to speak of, and no true lose state, instead leaving us to explore and gleefully romp at our leisure. I went into the game with next to no information and reserved expectations, and found myself quickly hooked by the charm and polish that oozes from every facet of the game.
